Last week I got the chance to see an art installation which has been seen all over the world, in Barcelona, Madrid, Sydney, Los Angeles and now Compton Verney in Warwickshire.
I know what you are thinking…What is a luminarium? “A walk-in sculpture designed as an artistic display of light and colour. ”
As the website says “Visitors have the chance to explore the sculpture, experiencing the beauty of light and colour as they move through a dazzling maze of domes, columns and tunnels of the Luminarium. The Luminarium is half the size of a Rugby Pitch and each of the domes immerses people in a unique environment.” And what a unique experience it was!

All of the light inside the Luminarium is created from natural sunlight coming through coloured material, it really is a very special experience. Music was playing which created an eerie, yet serene atmosphere which took your mind out of the current day and into somewhere quite magical.

I lay down and looked at the light from all angles and listened to the noises around me. There was just one thing missing… Unfortunately, being the school holidays, there were children everywhere and although they too should be able to enjoy this experience, I felt that adult only times would have been beneficial for those of us who really wanted to immerse ourselves into the serenity of the installation.
It is quite difficult to know how to describe it. It was beautiful although not perfect, I would have loved to have been able to spend more time in there and take everything in, gather my thoughts and really feel the spiritual calmness.
If you get the opportunity to go to the Luminarium, wherever it happens to be, take that time and see what feelings come up for you.
